Before you can open vendor applications you need one number: how many stalls the site can actually hold. Pacing it out with a tape measure works, but it is slow, and every time someone suggests wider aisles or bigger booths you are back at the site with the tape. This calculator lets you test those changes in seconds so you can settle on a layout, set a stall cap and stop over-promising space to vendors.

The estimate is simple geometry. It takes the usable length and width of your site, fits full stalls along the length at your chosen frontage, and stacks rows across the width using either facing rows (stalls on both sides of each aisle) or single rows (stalls on one side of each aisle). Partial stalls and partial rows are dropped rather than squeezed in, and no space is subtracted for entrances, an info booth, seating or emergency access, so treat the result as a ceiling and hold back whatever your fire marshal, landlord or common sense requires.

How to use this tool

Measure the usable length and width of your site in feet and enter them, leaving out any part you could not place a tent on.
Set the stall frontage and depth you sell to vendors, then enter the aisle width your fire marshal or your own comfort requires.
Choose facing rows or single rows, read the stall count, and subtract any stalls you will hold back for an info booth, seating or access lanes.

What the math assumes

The site is treated as a clean rectangle; irregular corners, trees, poles and curbs are not modeled, so measure only the part you could really fill.
Stalls are placed in full units only. Any leftover length or width that is smaller than a stall or a full row is reported as unused, not squeezed in.
With facing rows, the two rows between aisles sit back to back with no gap. Add the gap to the stall depth if your vendors need space behind their tents.
No area is subtracted for entrances, an information booth, seating, restrooms, loading zones or emergency vehicle access. Reduce the result yourself for those.
Site area per stall divides the whole usable site by the stall count, so it includes each stall's share of aisles and unused strips.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the calculator give fewer stalls than I get by dividing the site area by the stall size?

Dividing area by stall size ignores aisles and ignores that stalls come in whole units. This tool reserves full aisles between rows and drops any partial stall or partial row, which is closer to what you can actually chalk out on the day.

What aisle width should I use for a farmers market?

Use whatever your local fire code and permit require, and do not go below that. The default of 12 ft is only a placeholder; many markets run wider aisles so strollers, wheelchairs and crowds can pass in both directions.

Can I use this for a street market or a single row along a sidewalk?

Yes. Enter the block length as the site length, the depth you are allowed to occupy as the width, and choose single rows so each aisle serves one row of stalls.

Does the result include space for vendor vehicles?

Only if you build it into the stall depth. If vendors park behind their booth, set the stall depth to the tent plus the vehicle, for example 10 ft of tent plus 20 ft of parking.
